Massage Therapy

SkyTop Massage & Wellness invites you to experience the rejuvenating benefits of therapeutic massage today and discover the positive effect it can have on your body and your overall well-being.

Massage therapy is the scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body and consists of basic manual techniques derived from the study of Swedish Massage. These movements include stretching and pressure, holding and passive movements of the body. Massage works individual muscles, as well as muscle groups, to assist the body to relax, release toxins and to aid soft tissue to heal and repair after injury.

A relaxation massage is a gentle form of massage that can help to manage stress and maintain health through the use of kneading, long strokes, deep circular movements, vibration, and tapping. Light to medium pressure is utilized to allow the body to relax. The massage session helps the client to reconnect their mind with their body, relax and breathe deeply. The lymphatic system is energized and assists with the cleansing of toxins from the body. A sense of overall calm and peace is the objective.

Research indicates that massage therapy, as a regular part of your health and wellness plan, is vital in maintaining proper movement and can increase overall quality of life year after year. If you’re not sure where to begin, contact our professional massage therapist to discuss an individualized treatment plan.

Corrective Exercise

Corrective exercise therapy combines the scientific principles of human physiology, physics, and biomechanics to address an individual’s specific physical and biochemical needs.

Corrective exercise therapy is meant to remedy the cumulative results of stresses placed on the body, helping to restore and maintain posture, balance, mobility, and stability, which allows the body to move freely and with reduced pain.

Who can benefit from corrective exercise? Anyone recovering from an injury, someone wanting to maximize their fitness potential, or individuals that simply want to be proactive in staving off some of the common effects of aging.

Corrective exercise addresses joint inflexibility, muscle instability, and poor body mechanics through the lengthening of shortened muscles, the strengthening and activation of weak muscles, coupled with total-body movement and strength integration.

This makes corrective exercise therapy ideal for everyone – from weekend golfers to elite athletes looking to take their athletic performance to the next level, or individuals looking for an improved quality of life through functional movement.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique. The predominate form of Reiki practiced throughout the world today, also known as Usui Reiki, was created by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. It’s a complementary or alternative health approach. Reiki does not directly cure diseases or illnesses. Instead, it’s used as a way to manage symptoms and improve general well-being.

During a Reiki session, the practitioner places their hands either directly on you or just above you to bring about healing. The belief is that the practitioner is able to stimulate your body’s natural healing abilities.

Relieves pain, anxiety, and fatigue:

According to a review of randomized trials, Reiki may help to reduce pain and anxiety, though more research is needed. It may also help to reduce fatigue.

A 2015 study found that people being treated for cancer who received distant Reiki in addition to regular medical care had lower levels of pain, anxiety, and fatigue. These levels were significantly lower than the control group, who only received medical care. Participants had 30-minute sessions of distant Reiki for five days.

In another 2015 study, researchers looked at the effects of Reiki on women following cesarean delivery. They found that Reiki significantly reduced pain, anxiety, and the breathing rate in women 1-2 days after having a cesarean delivery. The need for and number of analgesic pain killers was also reduced. Reiki didn’t have an effect on blood pressure or pulse rate.

A 2018 study compared the use of Reiki to physiotherapy for relieving lower back pain in people with herniated disks. Both treatments were found to be equally effective at relieving pain, but Reiki was more cost-effective and, in some cases, resulted in faster treatment.

Additionally, a 2013 study indicates significant reductions in PTSD, anxiety, depression, and pain, and improvements in resilience from pre- to post-treatment and suggest that Reiki sessions  may have a positive impact on conventional behavioral health treatment effectiveness.
